Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram decides to appeal in the Apex Court after the Delhi High Court refused to grant him any protection from arrest in the INX Media case. The CBI issued a notice asking Chidambaram to appear before the investigating officer "within two hours", after failing to find him at his residence.

Lawyer of the former minister has asked the Central Bureau of Investigation under what law his client has been told to appear within 2 hours in an alleged corruption case.

The legal team of P Chidambaram has called the allegation totally baseless and asked the CBI not to take any coercive action against the former minister as his petition is to be heard in the Supreme Court Wednesday morning.  The team urged that the notice did not mention the specific provision of law under which he was summoned.

Arshdeep Khurana, a lawyer of Chidambaram, stated that his client has come to know “through reports “that he has been asked to be present before the investigation officer in the INX media case.

Back in 2017, 15th May, CBI had registered an FIR against P Chidambaram, the then union finance minister. The CBI had alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance granted to the media group for receiving overseas funds of Rs 305 crore in 2007 during Chidambaram's tenure as the finance minister. Thereafter, the ED lodged a money laundering case in this regard in 2018.

The controversial INX Media was founded by Indrani Mukherjee and her husband Peter Mukharjea in 2007.
