Karnataka CM Assures Early Decision on Special Corporation for Development of Weavers

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Sunday that a decision on establishing a separate special corporation for weaving development will be made soon.

On February 26, after inaugurating & laying the groundwork for various development projects in the Teradala Assembly constituency, Bommai said the government has increased financial assistance to weavers under the Nekar Sanman scheme to Rs 5,000.

Through DBT, Rs 51 crore has already been transferred to the bank accounts of 1.5 lakh weavers. A financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh is being provided for the establishment of a loom, as well as free power up to five HP. In this region, there is a high demand for textile parks.

"The government intends to establish 25 textile parks, one of which will be in Teradala," he said. The Chief Minister stated that the Sasalatti, Kerur, Revanasiddeshwara, and Aniwala Lift Irrigation schemes have been approved.

"At a cost of Rs 443 crore, the Sasalatti lift irrigation Scheme will irrigate 33000 hectares and provide drinking water to 11 villages in Teradal and Banahatti taluks," he said. Bommai stated that steps had been taken to fix the rate for land acquisition for the UKP 3rd stage project, which will be uniform rates for farmers.

"The necessary funds have been set aside. The scheme's verdict is expected soon, and the project will be launched after that. The upcoming verdict will assist the government in raising the height of the Almatti Dam," said Bommai. He also stated that the government has increased interest-free agriculture loans up to Rs 5 lakh and the revolving fund for the benefit of all.

"The "Gruhini Shakti" scheme, which provides Rs 1000 to agricultural women, has been developed. Agriculture and weaving have been prioritized in this area. Kittur Karnataka Development Board will be in charge of the district's development, he said.
