Milk Union to Distribute Free Milk to Poor, Labourers and Migrant Workers till April 14

Nationwide lockdown due to growing cases of Coronavirus in India has made the lives of poor and labourers very difficult. To provide some relief, the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd has planned to supply 5,000 litres of milk daily, that too free of cost to the poor and labourers till 14th April 2020 (till the lockdown).

Nationwide lockdown due to growing cases of Coronavirus in India has made the lives of poor and labourers very difficult. To provide some relief, the Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd has planned to supply 5,000 litres of milk daily, that too free of cost to the poor and labourers till 14th April 2020 (till the lockdown).

While announcing the plan in Udupi on Friday (3rd April 2020), President of Dakshina Kannada Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd, Raviraj Hegde said that such an initiative would help better use the milk being collected from dairy farmers during the 21-day lockdown period. He said this will also help in maintaining stability in milk production in rural regions without affecting the farmers.

The State government of Karnataka has urged the dairy unions to distribute milk free of cost to poor, labourers & migrant workers during the lockdown period. Thus, the milk union started this initiative at Udupi yesterday.

Hegde further said that the vehicles of the union would supply free milk at places designated by the district administration. And the officials concerned of the State government at selected locations will give free milk to the beneficiaries.

Regarding the arrangements, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district, Sadashiva Prabhu said that the district administration has taken all necessary steps for the smooth execution of the programme and it will assess the implementation process on a daily basis.
