Weather News:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red and yellow alert in numerous regions of the nation on Tuesday due to the persistent severe cold wave conditions and dense fog.

A "cold day to severe cold day" situation is expected in several locations in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttarakhand, according to the meteorological service. The IMD predicted a cold wave in a few isolated locations over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

It is noteworthy that the IMD defines a "cold wave" when the lowest temperature falls to 4 degrees Celsius or below and/or is 4.5 notches below average. When the minimum temperature is 10 degrees Celsius or below and/or is 4.5 to 6.4 degrees below the season average for two days in a row, it is referred to as a "cold day."

IMD latest updates

Several locations in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and isolated sites over Uttarakhand received cold to severe cold day warnings from the IMD on Tuesday. Isolated locations over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan received cold wave warnings.

According to the meteorological department, "dense to extremely dense fog" is also expected in a number of locations, including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan and Muzaffarabad (PoK), Himachal Pradesh, and West Rajasthan. In the meantime, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Bihar have received a red alert for fog.

Tuesday morning at Safdarjung, Delhi, the lowest temperature was 3.8 degrees Celsius. IMD predicts that while the maximum temperature will be 19 degrees Celsius, the lowest temperature will be 4 degrees.

Train/Flight Delayed

Fog and cold in the nation's capital have caused delays for several flights, including those from Delhi to Kathmandu, Delhi to Jaipur, Delhi to Shimla, Delhi to Dehradun, and Delhi to Chandigarh-Kullu, according to media reports.

In the Northern Railway zone, 36 trains are running late as a result of the fog.

The IMD stated on Saturday that "minimum temperatures are highly likely to climb by 2-4 degree Celsius over Northwest India after 24 hours due to the approaching new Western Disturbance from January 10 night."
