Senior congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will pay a visit to Lakhimpur Kheri today and will participate in the final rites (antim ardas) of the farmers who were decked to death on 2nd of October. She arrived in Lucknow along with Congress leaders Ajay Lallu and Deepender Hooda here on Tuesday morning.

The final preparations to the funerals are held in Banbirpur, is less than a kilometer from the site of killings. Though she is heading to the spot once again where eight people including four farmers were killed in the violence, the Congress leader will not receive a warm welcome by locals.

Securities are tightened in Lakhimpur Kheri, to where farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and other parts of Uttar Pradesh are proceeding to take part in the event.

Police brought heavy barricades in the Lucknow- Lakhimpur Kheri highway, where banners raised up to say ‘Rahul Gandhi Go Back, Priyanka Gandhi Go Back’. The people are not welcoming the Congress Leaders for their ‘fake sympathy’.

Earlier on Sunday, Priyanka addressed ‘Kisan Nyay’ march in Varanasi and slapped at the Union government in shielding the accused Ashish Mishra and his Minister Ajay Mishra in the Lakhimpur incident.

The incident comes amidst the ongoing farmers protest against the Centre's three farm bills.

However Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra had been sent to three-day police custody. He was sent to 14 days judicial custody after his arrest, later police sought a 14- day’s custody. Police claimed to the magistrate that he was not cooperating with the probe. The local court on Monday allowed three days custody remand from October 12 to October 1 5.

Ashish Mishra was arrested on Saturday after he was questioned for 12 hours in Lakhimpur Kheri. He was booked in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, alleging Mishra was in the one of the vehicles that mowed down the protesting farmers in Tikonia of Lakhimpur Kheri.
