Rupala Strengthens Assam's Fisheries Ecosystem through Review Visit

Parshottam Rupala, Union Cabinet Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, Government of India, visited Guwahati, Assam, with the aim and objective of reviewing and strengthening the fisheries sector growth, among other things. Bhubaneshwar Kalita MP (Rajya Sabha) greeted him warmly in Guwahati.

Following that, Parshottam Rupala spoke about the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojna (PMMSY) scheme and other multidimensional Blue Revolution activities, with a particular emphasis on increasing fisheries production and productivity (Inland, Himalayan, and Cold water) and its associated activities, such as infrastructure development, marketing, exports, and institutional arrangements, among others. 

Parshottam Rupala interacted with dignitaries/officers, PMMSY and KCC beneficiaries. Furthermore, he emphasized the implementation of the PMMSY scheme in all states and union territories, including Assam, and spoke in detail about closing critical gaps in the value chain of fisheries through the implementation of schemes like PMMSY and KCC for beneficiaries, fish farmers, fishermen, and other stakeholders. Parshottam Rupala recognized the Department of Fisheries' accomplishments, including:

i) Construction of a Modern Integrated Fish Landing Centre at Chunari Village, Goalpara District, with a total investment of Rs.19.91 crore and a central contribution of Rs.17.92 crore.

ii) Creation of one brood bank in government farms.

iii) The establishment of 76 new freshwater finfish hatcheries.

iv) Expansion of aquaculture area by building ponds on 1140 hectares.

v) Stocking of fingerlings in a 2410-hectare wetlands region.

vi) A 625-hectare area has been designated for Integrated Fish Farming support.

vii) Construction of 187 ornamental fish raising and breeding units.

viii) 52 Re-Circulatory Aquaculture System (RAS) units and 183 Biofloc culture system units have been approved.

ix) The installation of 150 cages in reservoirs.

x) Expansion of 210-hectare Pen culture area in open water bodies.

xi) 111 traditional fishermen's replacement boats and nets.

xii) Construction of 9 cold storage facilities and 92 feed mills. xiii) 1381 post-harvest transport vehicles (refrigerated and insulated trucks, three and two wheelers).

xiv) The establishment of 64 fish kiosks.

xv) Establishment of 1 Disease Diagnosis and Quality Testing Laboratory.

xvi) Support for livelihood and nutrition throughout the ban period was offered to 21000 fisher families.

xvii) In addition, the Department of Fisheries has received approval from the Government of Assam for three Central Sector Projects: "Project Sampoorna: An innovative project for reducing malnutrition among children of Bongaigaon District," "Construction of Aquariums in District Magistrates' Offices," and "Digitization of Assam Fishery Resources-Application of Geospatial technology for mapping & identification and Development of Assam Fisheries Resource Information System."

Beneficiaries of government programmes including PMMSY and KCC, as well as fish growers, fishermen, and villagers, met with Union Minister Parshottam Rupala. Assam is already a progressive state in fish production, bringing revolutionary changes and advancing quickly towards self-sufficiency in fish production and consumption, as well as other fisheries operations.

This interactive workshop will greatly assist fish farmers, fishermen, and other stakeholders in resolving problems, providing broad support, and working to improve the development of their fisheries activities. Furthermore, Union Minister Parshottam Rupala visited Bijoy Xess's Piggery Farm to gain a better knowledge of the ground development report. This connection will aid fish growers, fishermen, and other stakeholders with their overall social and economic growth.
