Sohan Lal Commodity Management (SLCM), India’s leading agri services solutions provider having operations across India & Myanmar, has been conferred with ‘ASSOCHAM Awards on Nutrition & Food Security: Agriculture, Food Processing, Supply chain 2017’ in “Best Product Innovation of the Year- Food Security”category for demonstrating their success by devising a technology “AGRI REACH” (patent pending) that can reduce post-harvest losses from the annual 10% to just 0.5% irrespective of infrastructure, crop or geographic location of the crop.
With this win, SLCM joins an illustrious league of companies that have been conferred this award. The award was presented by ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India) and was judged by an eminent jury comprising senior industry professionals.
The prestigious award was presented at Conference cum Awards on Nutrition & Food Security: Agriculture, Food Processing, Supply chain held in Hotel Shangri La, New Delhi in the presence of a distinguished gathering of global leaders, practitioners, scientists, farmers, the private sector, organized agriculture, civil society, and NGOs. Ms. Varnika Kukreja, Head- Corporate Communication at SLCM received the award from Dr Sasikala Pushpa, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha & Ms Vinita Bali, Chair, Board of Directors, GAIN.
On the win, Mr. Sandeep Sabharwal, Group CEO, SLCM said, “In India, it is distressing to note that every year; an enormous amount of food grains gets wasted due to archaic procurement, storage and inefficient warehousing methods. This results in huge burden on the economy because one, it leads to inflation as additional supplies could have helped cool down prices and two, this production can go a long way in providing food to millions of poor people in India at subsidized rates. Scientific Storage Techniques followed at SLCM have shown remarkable impact on the management and quality of goods. Typical storage losses in our country amount to approximately 10% of the stored goods; a huge loss for the entire economy, SLCM with its patent pending technology AGRI REACH has been able to effectively reduce these losses to 0.5% of the store value of goods. This esteemed award is presented to companies demonstrating a high level of commitment towards strengthening post harvest supply chain management. The award is presented only to the most outstanding achievers in these areas. AGRI REACH technology comprises of 79 different internal audit processes that are conducted every month to maintain high standards of storage and Real Time MIS that is virtually connected across India with an alert facility akin to a card swipe with SAP in backend & Jelly Bean on the frontend. Moreover, in the first year of its operation, SLCM brought "Bar Coded" storage receipts in practice that eliminated the risk of Fraud in terms of fake storage receipts. Henceforth, it has given interim solution to “Food Security Problem” of India which is a major social challenge to our society by saving on post-harvest losses. This has been validated in a study conducted by FICCI as well.
