With the introduction of Cisco-routed optical networking, Tech Mahindra said on Wednesday that it has cooperated with Cisco to enable infrastructure modernization of optical transport networks solutions. By combining optical and routing technologies to integrate services over an IP infrastructure for more automation, the partnership will simplify internet transport networks.

Service providers will be able to lower their operational costs and total cost of ownership as a result of the agreement.

Tech Mahindra's extensive experience in constructing IP-based, software-driven 5G networks, together with Cisco's Routed Optical Networking solution, will give service providers with an end-to-end value proposition for reducing network complexity.

The Future Ahead

"5G connectivity, network intelligence, and edge computing are unleashing a whole new world of opportunities," Manish Mangal, Tech Mahindra's Global Head of Business and 5G and Network Services, said.

"Through this partnership with Cisco, Tech Mahindra will make Routed Optical Networking solutions for service providers smarter, simpler, and easier to deploy and run."

"5G connectivity, network intelligence, and edge computing are unleashing a whole new world of opportunities such as the delivery of immersive experiences using Metaverse, Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality (AR/VR), among others. To bring such possibilities to life, future network infrastructure would need to be much more agile and software-driven," he added.

Tech Mahindra is putting money into a routed optical networking lab, as well as specialised services like SDN-enabled transport, transport slicing, and segment routing.

Service providers will be able to combine IP and private-line services onto a single transport layer using standardised, pluggable coherent optics as a result of this collaboration.

"With Tech Mahindra's expertise in OSS/BSS and Cisco's routed optical networking portfolio, we can assist customers to expedite the transformation of their network while generating significant cost savings," said Shaun McCarthy, Vice-President, Worldwide Mass-Scale Infrastructure Sales at Cisco.
