Telangana to Introduce up to Rs. 5 lakh Insurance for Handloom Workers

The Telangana Chief Minister announced the implementation of insurance scheme for the handloom workers in tune with the Rythu Bima scheme extended to farmers. Similar insurance coverage will be provided to the weavers as is provided to the farmers of the state.

The Telangana Chief Minister announced the implementation of insurance scheme for the handloom workers in tune with the Rythu Bima scheme extended to farmers. Similar insurance coverage will be provided to the weavers as is provided to the farmers of the state. 

K. Chandrasekhar Rao, Chief Minister of Telagana announced that the State Government is gearing up to create a special corpus fund for supporting weavers towards this end. This scheme will provide financial support of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the handloom weaver in the event of his death. 

He also said that the next phase of the loan waiver for farmers would be launched on Monday. Loans between Rs 25000 to Rs 50000 obtained by the farmers will be waived and an estimated six lakh farmers will get the benefit from the scheme. The process is expected to be completed by the month end.

The government has already waived loans up to Rs 25000 each obtained by around 3 lakh farmers. The government is implementing the loan waiver scheme in a phased manner for the remaining farmers.

The Chief Minister addressed the gathering after the unfurling the national flag on the occasion of 75th Independence Day. In his close to 30 minutes speech, the chief minister touched upon various schemes and measures introduced for the welfare of different sections, especially farmers and marginalized sections, since the TRS government came in power. 

He explained how the state was moving forward progressively in spite of encountering many hurdles, problems and Challenges. 

Telangana has come a long way, from being a place known for farmer’s suicides, State where the agriculture collapsed; it has seen an unprecedented development in agriculture sector, which contributes to 20% of the state’s GSDP.  

The state is witnessing a golden era when it comes to the welfare and there was no exaggeration in claiming that there is no home which had not been covered under one or the other scheme.
