Transforming Indian Agriculture towards Prosperity

The Science is basically the calculations and experiments in the laboratory and when implemented in the field it gives results in the shape of successful crops but in the back of this there are always data and use of the technology. When technological interventions catalyses the process the opportunities comes as business and generation of Income.

In view of the above there was a conference with the theme “Statistics, Informatics, Engineering Interventions and Business Opportunities: A road-map to transform Indian agriculture towards prosperity”. 

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) Inaugurated the 72nd Conference of Indian Society of Agricultural Statistics at ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal. The inaugural programme was attended by around 300 delegates, scientists and guests. 

He lauded the gradual development in the society to keep itself relevant in present days and called upon the conference delegates to pay attention to the fundamentals of statistics so that it can be effectively included in the curricula at school level and promote innovation. He also advised that besides annual conference, the society should also conduct some thematic interactions with different subject experts of agriculture and allied sector and also including statistician of other organizations which would help to deliver pertinent solutions to specific stakeholders. 

Dr. Narendra Singh Rathore, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Education), related importance of statistics in the modern day’s technologies and technology development process. He urged that during the conference, the delegates should spare some time in planning for future endeavours and their possible intervention in the frontier areas of science. 

Dr. K. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-CIAE, Bhopal during his welcome address delineated the vitality of data, its collection, processing, storage and dissemination in the sectors of agricultural mechanization, post-harvest processing and renewable energy. He also stressed upon the fact that all the newer frontiers of agricultural engineering viz. precision farming, automation of unit operations, robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, internet of things, autonomous farm vehicles, smart packaging, mobile based applications for farm machinery, irrigation and storage management, etc. 

Earlier, Dr. L. M. Bhar, Director ICAR-IASRI, New Delhi welcomed all the delegates and guests and presented a report on activities of ISAS.
