UIDAI Cancels Aadhaar Card of 6 Lakh People, Bans 11 Illegal Websites

UIDAI has so far canceled more than 598,999 duplicate Aadhaar cards, according to a report by HT Tech.

Aadhaar Card is an important document that is used as proof of identity and proof of residence in India. Recently, there have been a lot of incidents regarding duplicate or fake and misuse of Aadhar cards. Hence the UIDAI that issues Aadhaar numbers, has begun identifying and canceling such Aadhaar cards.

UIDAI has so far cancelled more than 598,999 duplicate Aadhaar cards, according to a report by HT.

Aadhar verification will soon be done from your face

The cancellation of duplicate Aadhar cards was announced in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajiv Chandrashekhar. He stated that UIDAI has taken a number of measures to solve the duplicate Aadhaar issue. He told that an additional verification feature has been added to the Aadhar card, wherein face recognition for Aadhaar verification will soon be started.

Responding to another query on illegal websites offering Aadhaar-related services, Chandrashekhar said UIDAI has also sent notices to these websites. He said that UIDAI has given notice to the owners of the respective websites to restrain themselves from providing such unauthorized services in any way.

11 Fake Aadhaar Service Providing Websites Banned 

From January 2022, 11 websites are no longer allowed to provide these services. He stated that these websites lack the power to enroll citizens, change their biometric data, or connect their cell numbers to their existing Aadhaar.

Users must update their information, including their mobile number, address, and photo, on the UIDAI's official website and at authorized Aadhaar centers.
