Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for a state-of-the-art Veterinary Science College in Gorakhpur on March 03, 2024. The ceremony marks a pivotal moment in the state's efforts to enhance education, research, and healthcare services related to veterinary sciences. The Veterinary Science College in Gorakhpur would be affiliated with the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Veterinary Sciences University, in conjunction with the Cow Research Institute situated in Mathura.

Veterinary Science College will be spread across an expansive 80-acre land in the Tal Nadur region along the Gorakhpur-Varanasi highway, the college boasts a strategic location facilitating accessibility and connectivity.

Empowering Veterinarians and Promoting Tourism

Dharmpal Singh, the Minister of Animal Husbandry & Dairying for the Government of Uttar Pradesh, announced that Veterinary Science College will offer training to veterinarians. He also mentioned that Gorakhpur will emerge as a prominent destination for tourism.

Singh emphasized the importance of animal service, stating that it is our duty. He highlighted efforts to improve the breed of Desi Cow, including Sahiwal, Gir, Tharparkar, Haryanavi, and Gangatiri. Free semen is being provided for artificial insemination, which aims to increase milk production from 2 liters to 10-12 liters per cow, thereby assisting in doubling farmers' income.

Veterinary Science College: Advancing Veterinary Education

Chief Minister Adityanath articulated his vision for the college, highlighting its potential to significantly benefit cattle herders not only from the state but also from neighboring regions such as western Bihar and even Nepal. The emphasis on regional cooperation underscores the broader mission of fostering mutual growth and development in the field of veterinary sciences.

The college's blueprint includes the establishment of various research and study centers dedicated to advancing veterinary science. Moreover, essential infrastructure such as a hospital block, academic facilities, staff quarters, and student hostels will be developed within the campus premises. Notably, the college is committed to sustainability, with plans to adopt a 'Net Zero Energy' framework, aligning with contemporary environmental imperatives.

Beyond traditional education, the curriculum will encompass diverse facets of veterinary sciences, encompassing aspects like animal health, breeding improvement, education, and fisheries. This holistic approach reflects a commitment to nurturing well-rounded professionals equipped to tackle contemporary challenges in the field.

In a nod to the state's cultural ethos and reverence for cattle, plans are underway for the establishment of a gaushala in Gorakhpur. Additionally, the proposal to construct an international stadium reflects a broader ambition to position Gorakhpur as a hub for veterinary excellence on the global stage. The diseases affecting cows, buffaloes, and pigs will be treated. Veterinary Science College will offer a new platform for youth interested in the animal husbandry sector.
