The Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited (AIC) recognized women achievers and self-help groups on International Women’s Day. AIC also launched three women-centric insurance products: Grahalakshmi Aay Suraksha, Matsya Aajeevika Suraksha, and Sampoorna Pashudhan Kavach. These initiatives are aimed at empowering rural women by providing financial assistance through agricultural insurance coverage. Let's discuss these products in detail:

1. Grahalakshmi Aay Suraksha

The first insurance cover is named 'Grahalakshmi Aay Suraksha,' which is a 'Heat Index Cover,' offering financial protection to MNREGA women workers in cases where temperature exceeds the prescribed limit. In simpler terms, this insurance provides benefits to rural women whose employment is impacted by excessive temperatures. This cover will be active for the next three months, from March 16 to June 16, 2024, granting eligible women farmers a maximum of Rs 4000. The premium for this insurance is approximately Rs 200 per person, allowing women to receive financial aid of up to Rs 4000 upon payment of the premium.

Only women with an MNREGA Job Card are eligible to avail of this insurance cover. Those possessing an MNREGA job card can easily apply for it. For more details, interested parties can visit the AIC website or contact the Indian Agricultural Insurance Company on the toll-free number 5488258.

2. Matsya Aajeevika Suraksha

The second insurance coverage is named 'Matsya Aajeevika Suraksha,' designed to safeguard fisherwomen from the impact of natural disasters such as cyclones. In the event of a cyclone alert preventing fishermen from fishing, fisherwomen who sell their produce door-to-door will receive a specific lump sum amount, capped at a maximum of Rs 10,000. This coverage compensates for lost fishing days due to cyclones, shielding families from financial hardships. Eligibility for this insurance extends to the wives of registered fishermen.

3. Sampoorna Pashudhan Kavach

The third insurance cover is 'Sampoorna Pashudhan Kavach,' a micro insurance product designed to protect milk animals from death. Under the leadership of AIC's Chairman Cum Managing Director, Girija Subramanian, the company is empowering rural women self-help groups by involving them as micro insurance agents.

The Agriculture Insurance Company (AIC) has on-boarded more than 1000 Women Self Help Groups comprising more than 10,000 rural women. Chami Murmu (Padma Shri) was the Chief Guest at the event, Nandita Bakshi (Retd. IRS officer) was the Guest of Honour and Kamaljeet Kaur (Organic Farmer from Punjab) was the Women Achiever.
