The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Saturday that maximum temperatures are falling across the nation, bringing relief to thousands of people who have been suffering from the heat wave since last few days.
On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 42.2 degrees Celsius in Phalodi, west Rajasthan.
Heatwave conditions have been observed in various regions of the nation, with severe heatwave conditions in some pockets throughout Himachal Pradesh and west Rajasthan; heatwave to severe heatwave conditions have also been observed in isolated pockets across the Jammu division and west Madhya Pradesh.
Heatwave conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas in west Rajasthan on Sunday, Vidarbha on Sunday and Monday, and west Madhya Pradesh till March 22.
For almost a week, heatwave and severe heatwave conditions had prevailed over Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Odisha. Earlier in the week, maximum temperatures even in the Himalayan states and foothills had been higher than normal.
According to the IMD, isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorm/lightning is highly possible over the western Himalayan area on Monday due to the influence of a western disturbance.
Over the next five days, light isolated rainfall with thunderstorms/lightning is very likely over Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karnataka; over Rayalaseema and coastal Andhra Pradesh till March 22; and over Telangana on Sunday.
Light to moderate isolated rainfall is also very likely over Northeast India from March 21, the IMD said.
