International Day of Yoga Celebrations at Ministry of Fisheries Marks

The celebrations of the International Day of Yoga 2023 served as a reminder of the universal appeal and benefits of Yoga, uniting people from different walks of life in the pursuit of physical and mental well-being.

International Day of Yoga 2023 was celebrated worldwide with the theme "Yoga for Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam," emphasizing the unity of humanity. In line with the commemoration of 9 Years of service, good governance, and welfare of the poor, Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, inaugurated the International Day of Yoga at LN Convention Hall in Kandi Village, Sangareddy, Telangana, Hyderabad.

Approximately 400 participants, including local panchayat members, fisheries association members, MPs, MLAs, fish farmers, and agriculture farmers of Sangareddy, joined the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). During the event, Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, highlighted the direct relationship between the theme "Yoga: A Path Towards Wellness" and the fisheries sector. He discussed how the practice of yoga could benefit individuals working in the fishery sector.

The Minister expressed India's pride in the global acceptance of Yoga, recognizing it as an integral part of the country's cultural and spiritual heritage. He emphasized that practicing yoga promotes physical health, enhances mental well-being, cultivates self-awareness, fosters community and unity, and encourages healthy lifestyles.

Furthermore, Dr. L. Murugan, Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, participated in the International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2023, at Girls Senior Secondary School in Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, a Union Territory of India.

International Day of Yoga 2023: Common Yoga Protocol

In support of the International Day of Yoga, the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying actively participated by organizing the Common Yoga Protocol at Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi. Jatinder Nath Swain, IAS, Secretary (Fisheries), Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, IAS, OSD (Fisheries), Sagar Mehra, Joint Secretary (Inland Fisheries), dignitaries, and officials participated in the Yoga session at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi.

Field institutes such as the Fishery Survey of India (FSI), Central Institute of Coastal Engineering for Fishery (CICEF), National Institute of Fisheries Post-Harvest Technology and Training (NIPHATT), National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical & Engineering Training (CIFNET), and Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) also organized the Common Yoga Protocol as part of their contributions to the International Day of Yoga.
